2012 Made just five starts for the Padres before landing on the 15-day DL with a strained left elbow on 5/2 and undergoing season-ending Tommy John surgery on his left elbow on 5/23. Started the Padres second game of the season on 4/6 vs. LAD at Petco Park, taking the loss after working 4.2 innings and allowing six runs on nine hits...his only loss of 2012. Padres won his other four starts from 4/11-27, going 3-0 with a 1.37 ERA(4 ER/26.1 IP) and 17 strikeouts against just 19 hits allowed over that span. Worked a career-high 8.0 innings in his second-to-last start on 4/21 at PHI, allowing just two hits and two walks with no runs while striking out five.
