Graduated from Jersey Village High School in Houston, Texas, where he was a Class 5A All-State selection as a catcher in 2000...began his collegiate career as a middle linebacker for the University of Houston...attended San Jacinto Junior College to begin switch to baseball...at SJJC in 2002, batted .377 with 24 home runs and 87 RBI to help lead the team to the Junior College World Series... transferred to Louisiana State University...as a senior at LSU, hit .370 with 18 HRs and 65 RBI in 257 at-bats while playing outfield...originally drafted by the Houston Astros in the 39th round of the 2002 draft but did not sign...resides in Magnolia, Texas with his wife, Casey, and daughter, Kate Elaine (9/29/08) ...name is pronounced stav-uh-noah. 2010 Began the season on the Cardinals' Opening Day roster for the first time.
