Attended Duke University, where he majored in sociology...drafted out of high school (42nd round) by the New York Mets in 2005, but did not sign...signed by the San Diego Padres as a non-drafted free agent on March 5, 2006.

Spent the season with either Triple-A Las Vegas or the New York Mets...Made 32 relief appearances for the Mets, going 0-3 with a 5.68 ERA (31.2 IP, 20 ER)...Recalled from Las Vegas on 9/7 for a sixth time...appeared in four games over the final two months, going 0-1 with a 16.88 ERA (2.2 IP, 5 ER)...had a career-best 6.2 scoreless innings streak from 5/13-25...Tossed a career-high 2.2 innings on 7/19 vs. PHI...Went 2-2 with 5 saves and a 4.55 ERA (31.2 IP, 16 ER) in 31 games for Las Vegas.
