After signing with the Rays in January 2010, he spent the next two months at the Winning Inning Baseball Academy in Clearwater, Fla., where he was employed, worked out and lived in the same room where Josh Hamilton resided just before returning to professional baseball in 2006...When the Padres drafted Matt with the first overall pick in the 2004 June Draft, he became the second San Diego native to be selected by the Padres with their top pick...in 1979, the Padres selected catcher and current Oakland A's manager Bob Geren 24th overall out of Clairemont (Calif.) High School...Matt was drafted on June 7 and signed two days later.
