Threw 5 no-hitters over 4 years at Blue Springs (MO) High School...Attended Wichita State where he went 16-2 with a 2.94 ERA (47 ER/143.2 IP) in 32 career games (30 starts)... As a freshman in 2004, went 7-0 with a Missouri Valley Conference-leading 2.01 ERA in 13 games (11 starts) en route to being named First Team Freshman All-American...Compiled a 6-2 record for the Shockers in 2006 with a 4.86 ERA (29 ER/53.2 IP) and 45 K¡¦s in a career-high 15 starts.

2013

Was an invite to Pirates spring training and was reassigned to minor league camp... Began the season with Triple-A Indianapolis... Posted monthly ERA's of 1.99 (22.2 IP, 5 ER) in April; 1.65 (32.2 IP, 6 ER) in June; 1.00 (27.0 IP, 3 ER) in July; and 2.11 (21.1 IP, 5 ER) in August... Had contract purchased by Pittsburgh August 18 and made major league debut that same day, pitching 6.0 innings of relief vs. Arizona; allowing two runs on five hits with two walks and five strikeouts...was issued the loss as the game lasted 16 innings... Optioned back to Indianapolis August 19... Went 10-3, 2.16 ERA (125.0 IP, 30 ER) in 21 starts for Indianapolis and 0-1, 5.06 ERA (10.2 IP, 6 ER) in five relief appearances... Led the International League in ERA (2.39), fourth in WHIP (1.17) and tied for seventh in wins (10)... Recalled by Pittsburgh September 1... Made three appearances for the Pirates in September, allowing five runs on seven hits in 4.1 innings pitched... Acquired by Minnesota via trade with Pittsburgh in exchange for right-handed pitcher Duke Welker November 19.

Spent first season with Pittsburgh organization after signing as a minor league free agent December 14, 2011...split the season between Double-A Altoona and Triple-A Indianapolis...made season debut and recorded first professional save April 6 vs. Erie...did not allow an earned run in final 22.0 innings pitched between both levels...combined to go 8-4, 3.19 ERA (101.2 IP, 36 ER) with 75 strikeouts in 35 games (13 starts) between both levels; posted a 1.56 ERA (57.2 IP, 10 ER) in 13 starts and a 5.32 ERA (44.0 IP, 26 ER) in 22 relief appearances...played in the Dominican Winter League with Escogido and went 1-0, 0.67 ERA (27.0 IP, 2 ER) in six games (4 starts).

2011

Started season with Triple-A Pawtucket (Boston) and went 2-2, 12.63 ERA (20.2 IP, 29 ER) with seven home runs allowed in eight games (3 starts)...unconditionally released from Boston's organization May 16...signed with the Kansas City T-Bones of the American Association (Independent League)...went 6-3, 3.23 ERA (111.1 IP, 40 ER) with two complete games (1 shutout), 51 walks and 64 strikeouts in 16 starts.

2010

Spent season with Triple-A Pawtucket...posted a 2.88 ERA (34.1 IP, 11 ER) in six May starts...led Pawtucket in innings pitched (132.2), ranked second in starts (24), tied for third in wins (6) and strikeouts (79)...tied for first in the International League in losses (13)...made five starts for Escogido in the Dominican Winter League, going 1-1, 3.00 ERA (24.0 IP, 8 ER).
