Graduated from Bessemer City (N.C.) High School where he broke Major League veteran Kevin Millwood's school record for strikeouts in a single season with 182 in 91.0 IP. He worked out with Millwood this winter. 2007 Named the Southern League's Most Outstanding Pitcher and selected the Double-A Pitcher of the Year by MiLB.com...led the SL with 15 wins (2nd in organization) and a 2.57 ERA, tops in all of AA...his 136 strikeouts and 161.1 innings were 4th in the league...also tabbed as the pitcher with the best control in the league by Baseball America...Montgomery was 25-5 in his 30 starts including postseason...last time the Biscuits lost one of his starts was June 30 when he worked 5 innings allowing only one run, but took the 4-3 loss to Birmingham (White Sox)...Biscuits went undefeated in his last 13 starts including the postseason (he was 6-0)...In his last 16 regular season starts dating back to June 19, he was 7-1 with a 2.08 ERA (IP-82.1, H-74, ER-19)...Also beat Huntsville (Brewers) 4-1 in Game 3 of the best-of-5 SL Championship with 6 shutout innings (H-8, BB-3, SO-6)...Did not allow a home run in his last 15 starts (IP-90)...allowed home runs in only 5 of his 28 starts...right-handers hit just .205 off him...Allowed 3 ER or less in 26 of 28 starts and 2 ER or less 22 times...allowed 5 hits or less 16 times...only twice did he fail to complete five innings...Hurled a complete-game (IP-9) 3-hitter on June 24 in a 7-0 win at Mississippi (Braves)...didn't allow a hit until the 6th inning. 2006 Earned the win in his pro debut June 22, 2005 for Hudson Valley with 2.0 scoreless innings of relief striking out 4...worked 2.0+ innings 11 times and allowed more than 1 ER just once...named the Rays 10th-best prospect by Baseball America.
