First name is pronounced: dah-veed. Signed with the Astros as a 17-year old amateur free agent out of Venezuela on March 3, 2005...signed by Astros scouts Andres Reiner and Jesus Aristimuno. Added to the club's 40-man roster on Aug. 20, 2013...signed to a one-year contract that runs through the 2014 season.

2013

Rookie reliever made four appearances for the Astros across two stints...worked in long relief, making two 2.2-inning appearances and two 3.0-inning appearances ... began his season in minor league Spring Training, but made three official appearances for the Astros in the Spring (4ER/6.2IP)...assigned to Double A Corpus Christi at the beginning of the season before being promoted to Triple A OKC on Aug. 8...selected to the Major League roster on Aug. 20 and optioned back to OKC on Aug. 26 ... recalled on Sept. 8 and finished the season as an Astro...made his Major League debut on Aug. 21 at TEX and tossed 2.2 scoreless innings, while allowing just one hit and one unearned run...in his second MLB appearance, earned his first MLB win on Aug. 26 at CWS (3ER/2.2IP) in the Astros 10-8 win ... optioned back to Triple A following that game... pitched twice as a September call up after his recall (6ER/6IP)...following the season, was named the Double A Texas League Pitcher of the Year...set a Corpus club record for wins (14) and at the time of his callup, led the Texas League in wins, ERA, WHIP (1.00) and was tied for first with two complete games...finished the year at Corpus 14-2 with one save and a 2.02 ERA (29ER/129.1IP)...allowed a .233 opponent's batting average and walked only 20 hitters...was a Texas League Midseason and Postseason All-Star...named Corpus Christi's Pitcher of the Month in June and July... over his final five starts with the Hooks, went at least 7.0 innings while allowing no more than two earned runs...at his two minor league levels combined, went 14-4 with a 2.57 ERA (40ER/140.1IP) in 29 appearances (21 starts) with two complete games.
