Selected by Colorado in the 9th round of the 2005 June draft...Born on April 20, 1984 in St. Louis, MO. 2010 Made his first appearance at Triple-A Colorado Springs where he spent the entire season as a late-inning reliever...finished 25 games for the Sky Sox and appeared in the second-most games (55)...From 4/16-5/12 allowed just one run, unearned, in 14 appearances over 15.0 innings...over that span allowed just 11 hits and four walks compared to 10 strikeouts...Did the majority of his work in the 8th inning where he posted a 3.70 ERA (24.1 ip, 10 er)...Tied his career-high with 3 wins and was just one appearance short of his career-high with 55 games...Finished tied for second in the Pacific Coast League and led the Sky Sox with 11 holds. 2009 Spent the season as the Tulsa Drillers' closer, and led the Texas League with 31 saves, nine more than any other player in the league...went 2-4 with a 3.69 ERA (53.2 ip, 22 er) while converting 31 of his 34 save opportunities...owned a 1.83 ground-out to fly-out ratio...owned a 3.21 ERA (33.2 ip, 12 er) prior to the All-Star break, and a 4.50 ERA (20.0 ip, 10 er) after the break...opponents hit .300 (63-for-210) against him, and he struggled against lefties, who hit .398 (37-for-93) against him...right-handers hit just .222 (26- for-117) against him...was named to the Texas League mid season and post-season All-Star teams. 2008 Began the season with Modesto as the club's closer before being transfered to Tulsa in late July...despite his transfer in July, Johnston was named the California Leagues top reliever, as well as a midseason and post-season All-Star...led the Cal League with his 24 saves...owned a 2.37 ground-out to flyout ratio with the Nuts...did not allow an earned run until 6/9, a span of 20 games without allowing an earned run to open the season...held a 0.49 ERA (18.1 ip, 1 er) on the road and a 3.32 ERA (21.1 ip, 8 er) at home with Modesto...made 15 appearances for the Drillers, with opponents hitting .313 (20-for-64) off him in the Texas League...allowed runs in 5 of his 15 appearances for Tulsa, three times allowing multiple runs. 2007 Began the season as Modesto's primary closer before settling in as a setup man midway through the season...went 3-6 with a 5.51 ERA while converting 13 of his 21 save opportunities...led the team with his 13 saves and 55 appearances...was named to the California League mid-season All-Star team, as he went 1-4 with a 3.00 ERA (33.0 ip, 11 er) and all 13 saves before the All-Star break...was 2-2 with a 8.22 ERA (30.2 ip, 28 er) after the All-Star break...did not allow a run over his first 10 appearances, going 1-0 with 5 saves and 9 K's in 11.0 innings over those first 10 games. 2006 Asheville's primary closer logged an 0-3 record with a 2.84 ERA (44.1 ip, 14 er) and converted 25 of 30 save opportunities in 45 relief appearances...recorded just 23 strikeouts, but walked only 5 batters... his 25 rescues were tied with Colorado Springs' Nate Field for the most in the Rockies organization and ranked as the third-most in the SAL...finished team-best 37 games for the Tourists...was unscored upon in 31 of 45 contests...after allowing runs in his first 2 appearances, Johnston blanked opponents over his next 13 games, covering 13.0 innings pitched and held the opposition to a .109 (5-for-46) avg. against...converted 11 straight save opportunities from July 24-August 13, allowing just 2 earned runs during that span in 10.2 innings...led the league with 12 saves in the August. 2005 Led Pioneer League in saves, games finished (29) and tied for first in games played...blanked opponents in 28 of his 30 appearances...did not allow an earned run in his first 16 appearances, covering 17.2 innings pitched...converted 4 straight save opportunities in his last 4 appearances.
