Kevin Michael Melillo...Attended Lake Brantley HS (FL)...Graduated from the University of South Carolina in 2009 with a degree in Sports Management...Has played in A's, Blue Jays, Brewers and Pirates organizations...Originally signed by Atheltics' scout Mike Holmes. 2007 Was selected from Triple-A Sacramento on June 21 and made his Major League debut on June 24 at New York against the Mets...pinch hit for Jay Marshall in the eighth inning and walked...that was his only appearance in a game for Oakland in 2007 as he was optioned back to Sacramento on June 25...batted .262 with 10 home runs and 55 RBI in 98 games with Sacramento...missed one month of the season as he was on the disabled list from July 3 to August 2 with a sprained left wrist...led the River Cats in triples (6) and ranked second in doubles (27) and strikeouts (100)...the triples and strikeouts were career highs...his batting average included a .277 (72 for 260) mark against right-handers and .230 (28 for 122) against left-handers...hit nine of his 10 home runs against righties...batted .315 with runners in scoring position and .225 with the bases empty...had a .355 batting average with five home runs in 21 games during the day compared to .239 with five home runs in 77 games at night...hit in every spot in the order except fourth and saw his most action in the leadoff spot where he made 35 starts...had 25 of his 55 RBI when hitting first...had a .392 batting average in the first inning...appeared in 88 games at second base and 11 at third base...was also 0 for 1 with a strikeout as a pinch hitter...hit .254 with no home runs and six RBI over his first 18 games through April 26...then went 15 for 33 (.455) with five doubles, two home runs, 13 RBI and four three-hit games over a six-game stretch from April 27 to May 2...that included a season high four RBI on April 28 at Salt Lake...finished April with a .318 batting average, his best one month average in 2007...was batting .320 on May 2 and then went 16 for 79 (.203) over his next 19 games from May 3 to 22...followed that up with a season best 15-game hitting streak from May 23 to June 8...went 21 for 65 (.323) with 17 runs scored, 11 walks, eight doubles and three home runs during the hitting streak...was batting .267 with seven home runs and 40 RBI in 67 games when the A's called on June 21...returned to Sacramento on June 27 and went 5 for 20 (.250) with a home run and five RBI in five games before going on the seven-day disabled list on July 3 with a sprained right wrist...was reinstated from the DL on August 3 and went 22 for 89 (.247) over his final 26 games...was 10 for 25 (.400) with five doubles and eight RBI over his last seven regular season games...then went 2 for 25 (.080) with seven walks and three RBI in eight postseason games...both of his hits were for extra bases (one triple, one home run).
