Fernando Cortez attended Grossmont Junior College in El Cajon, Calif. 2007 Began the season at Omaha (AAA)...was hitting .299 (67-for-224) for the O-Royals with 12 doubles, 1 triple, 3 home runs, 19 RBI and 31 runs...also had stolen 9 bases in 10 attempts...Had his contract purchased by the Royals on June 13...made his Royals debut as a defensive replacement at second base on June 14 vs. St. Louis...Made his first start in a KC uni, making start at second and going 2-for-3 with a run scored on June 16 vs. Florida...Was designated for assignment on July 11...accepted his assignment and was assigned to Omaha on July 13. 2006 Spilt his season between the Tampa Bay and Kansas City organizations, appearing in 60 games for Durham (AAA) before being acquired by the Royals along with OF Joey Gathright in exchange for LHP J.P.
