Niesen graduated from Huron (MI) High School where he was a fouryear letter winner and all-state selection...Also played soccer and basketball...Was rated as the top lefthanded high school pitcher in Michigan by Baseball America his senior season...Attended Wake Forest University where he majored in Business Communications. 2009 Divided the season between St. Lucie (A) of the Florida State League and Binghamton (AA) of the Eastern League...Led all Mets minor leaguers with 134 strikeouts...Joined Binghamton on June 13th...Went 3-0 with a 1.93 ERA in five starts in May...In 28.0 innings, he gave up 25 hits, eight runs, six earned, with nine walks and 25 strikeouts...Was 0-4 with two no-decisions and a 6.75 ERA (20 earned runs/26.2 innings) in his first six starts at Double-A...Over his final 10 starts, he went 4-3 with three no-decisions (23 earned runs in 56.1 innings, 3.67 ERA)...Struck out a season-high 10 in 5.0 innings vs. Harrisburg...With Binghamton, he had 85 strikeouts in 83.0 innings...For the season, he pitched 140.2 innings, allowed 127 hits and struck out 134 batters for an average of 8.57 strikeouts per nine innings...Pitched four games for the Surprise Rafters in the Arizona Fall League. 2008 Pitched 6.0 innings or more nine times...Had a 4.24 ERA (54 earned runs/114.1 innings) as a starter...In a five start stretch from May 20th-June 11th, he went 3-2 with a 2.10 ERA (seven earned runs/30.0 innings pitched). 2007 Made his professional debut for Brooklyn (A) of the New York-Penn League before a promotion to St. Lucie...Appeared in four games out of the bullpen for Surprise of the Arizona Fall League.
