Hector begins his second season with the Cubs after spending the first eight campaigns of his professional career in the Cleveland Indians system … was selected by Chicago in the major league portion of the 2012 Rule 5 Draft, and spent the entire 2013 season on the major league roster... Was 2-1 with a 4.77 ERA (29 ER/54.2 IP) in 45 relief appearances last season for the Cubs... Is 36-36 with a 3.88 ERA (253 ER/587.0 IP) in 120 minor league games, all but seven as a starter … has struck out 526 while walking 121... Underwent Tommy John surgery on his right elbow, August 25, 2010 ... had a second procedure in December of 2011 to repair an elbow fracture … missed most of the 2011 and 2012 seasons recovering from the injury... Made the Eastern League All-Star team while earning honors as Cleveland's Minor League Pitcher of the Year in 2009... In 2008, he was ranked as the ninth-best prospect in the Carolina League by Baseball America … made the Carolina League All-Star team that season...
