Attended Escuela Fecnica High School in his native Venezuela...signed with the Red Sox July 2, 1998 at the age of 16, and just less than one year later made his pro debut with the GCL Red Sox. 2006 SUMMARY: Pitched for the Eastern League champion Portland Sea Dogs, going 5-3 with a 2.61 ERA (20 ER/69.0 IP) and team-leading 12 saves...his ERA was best among all Sea Dogs relievers with at least 38.0 innings pitched...was selected to play for the World Team at the 2006 XM Satellite Radio All-Star Futures Game on July 9 at PNC Park in Pittsburgh...was the lone representative from the Red Sox organization...had 59 strikeouts in 69.0 innings and held opponents to a .205 batting average...had two saves in the postseason...posted a 2.40 ERA (4 ER/15.0 IP) in 14 games for Pastora de los Llanos of the Venezuelan Winter League.

SCORELESS STREAKS: Went 1-0 with three saves over a 13.0-inning scoreless streak covering eight outings from April 29-May 24...had a 12.0-inning scoreless streak over eight appearances from Aug. 8-26, going 2-0 with two saves in that span...collected three saves without allowing an earned run in his first seven games of the season (8.2 IP).
