Originally selected by the San Francisco Giants in the 3rd round of the 1994 First Year Player Draft. 2009 Had two stints with the O's: June 5-21 (contract selected from Triple-A Norfolk) and was recalled on September 1...Did not allow an earned run in 17 of his 20 appearances (allowed one ER in each of his other three)...Allowed only one of 17 inherited runners to score (94.1% strand rate)...Allowed one ER over 6.2 IP in his final 12 appearances, lowering season ERA from 3.38 to 2.25...Held lefties to a .269 average, allowing only one extra-base hit (double) in 30 plate appearances...13 of his 20 appearances were for less than one inning...Pitched a season-high 1.0 inning seven times...Did not allow a hit in 10 of his 16 appearances after being recalled on September 1, pitching to a 1.86 ERA (9.2IP, 2ER)...Successfully retired the first batter he faced in 15 of 20 appearances...Did not allow a hit (0-for-4 with two walks) with runners in scoring position and two outs...Allowed an opponents average of .176 (3-17) on the road and .346 (9-26) at Camden Yards 2008 Made his ML debut July 8 @TOR after having his contract selected from Norfolk earlier that day...Allowed a hit and hit a batter in his debut without recording an out...Recorded his first ML win vs. CWS in a game that was suspended on April 28 in Chicago (while Castillo was with Triple-A Norfolk) and finished August 25 at Camden Yards...The suspended game makes it appear that Castillo's major league debut occurred on April 28, when in fact it took place July 8, yet he is credited with a win for the game on April 28...Worked a career-high 2.1 IP August 6 @LAA...Struck out a career-best three batters on July 30 @ NYY, August 11 @CLE and September 23 vs. TB...Fanned Kevin Cash on July 12 at Fenway Park for his 1st ML strikeout...
