Travis Cole Chick...Attended Whitehouse HS (Whitehouse, TX)...Originally drafted in 14th round of 2002 free agent draft by Florida...was first-team All-District in 1999, 2001 and 2002 and second-team in 2000...was All-East Texas in 2001 and 2002...following the 2005 season volunteered at baseball camps in Tyler, TX to help the relief efforts of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. 2006 Chick was acquired from the Cincinnati Reds on July 6 for popular relief pitcher Eddie Guardado. Chick had a 12.60 ERA in three appearances for Seattle after being promoted from Double-A San Antonio when the rosters expanded in September. Chick issued 10 walks in five innings with the Mariners. Prior to his recall, Chick was 4-2 with a 3.19 ERA in 11 starts for San Antonio. 2002 In his first professional season went 3-2, 2.76 with 1 save in 8 starts and 4 relief apps for the Marlins' Gulf Coast League club...signed his first professional contract on 6/7. 2003 Spent the season with Jamestown in the New York-Penn League... 2004 At Class A Greensboro and Class A Fort Wayne combined to finish 11-4, 3.43 ERA in 18 starts and 17 relief apps...was the Padres' Class A Pitcher of the Year...held opponents to a .224ba while recording 167 strikeouts in just 133.2 innings...began the season with the Marlins' affiliate in Greensboro, where he went 6-4, 4.04 ERA in 28g and 11 starts...while with the Grasshoppers produced a season-high 13 strikeouts while allowing 1 hit over 6.0 shutout innings in a victory on 7/11 at Capital City...on 7/31 was traded to the Padres for RHP Ismael Valdez...finished the season at Fort Wayne, where he went 5-0, 2.13 in 7 starts...recorded 11 strikeouts in a win on 8/23 vs Clinton...also had 10-strikeout efforts on 8/12 at West Michigan and 9/3 at Wisconsin. 2005 Spent the season in the Southern League with the Padres' Class AA affiliate in Mobile and the Reds' AA club in Chattanooga...combined to finish 4-11, 5.14 with 1 complete game in 27 starts...ranked second in the league in starts...went 2-9, 5.27 in 19 starts at Mobile before he was traded to the Reds on 7/23, along with RHP Justin Germano, in exchange for 3B Joe Randa...finished the season at Chattanooga and went 2-2, 4.86 in 8 starts...entered the season as the fourth-best prospect in the Padres organization, according to Baseball America...on 11/18 went on the Reds' 40-man roster.
