Ryan Patrick Ketchner...single...was born partially deaf and has roughly 10 percent of his hearing...wears two hearing aids which help him detect vibrations, but not decipher words...is a talented lip reader...while in high school, met Curtis Pride, the only deaf player in the modern era to reach the Major Leagues, and has remained in contact with him since...while playing for San Bernardino, CA-based Inland Empire in 2003, visited students at the California School for the Deaf in Riverside, CA...a 2000 graduate of John I. Leonard High School in Greenacres, FL...signed by Seattle scout Pedro Gifol. 2004 Made 21 starts for Double-A Jacksonville and was 8-7 with a 3.02 ERA in 119.1 innings of work...his 3.02 ERA ranked third in the Southern League...chosen to participate in Southern League All-Star Game...promoted to Triple-A and made one start for Las Vegas on Sept. 3 vs. Salt Lake, pitching 7.0 innings, allowing only one run, five hits and no walks with four strikeouts, receiving a no-decision...in that outing, he retired first seven batters faced and 14 of first 15, taking a shutout into the seventh inning...his combined 2.92 ERA was second among all Dodger minor league pitchers...hurled 6.0 or more innings in 11 of his 22 total starts, including a season-high 8.0 frames in a July 27 loss at Chattanooga...over first six starts of campaign, went 3-0 and compiled a 1.35 ERA (5 ER/33.1 IP)...pitched 7.0 shutout innings, giving up five hits and two walks while striking out six batters on April 20 at Greenville...did not surrender an earned run over 15.0 consecutive innings from April 20-30...also won three consecutive decisions from June 20-July 8...threw 5.0 scoreless frames, allowing two hits and two walks, to win vs. Carolina on June 27...in last start for Jacksonville on Aug. 29 vs. Montgomery, earned win by tossing 6.0 shutout innings, giving up five hits and two walks...following the season, pitched in two games for Scottsdale in the Arizona Fall League.
