William Jennings (Billy) Buckner...graduated from Salem (Conyers, GA) High School...originally selected by Tampa Bay in the ninth round of the 2003 draft, but did not sign. 2010 Began the season with Triple-A Reno in the Arizona organization where he went 3-1, 3.53 (43.1 ip, 17 er) in 7 starts to begin the year...Recalled from Reno 5/18 and made the start for the Diamondbacks that night at FLA...made three spot starts for Arizona going 0-3, 11.08 (13.0 ip, 16 er) in those three starts...Was traded from Arizona to Detroit for LHP Dontrelle Willis, 6/1, and was sent to Triple-A Toledo...Made 8 starts for Toledo from 6/5 through 7/15, going 3-5, 9.40 (37.1 ip, 39 er) with one complete game...Was released by Detroit, 7/25...he cleared waivers and became a free agent on 7/28. 2009 Opened the season with the Major League club for the first time in his career and compiled a 4-6 record and 6.40 ERA (55 ER in 77.1 IP) over 16 appearances (13 starts) in 3 separate stints, having entered the season ranked as the D-backs' eighth-best prospect according to Baseball America... Named the organizational Pitcher of the Year for his efforts at Triple-A Reno, going 9-3 with a 3.32 ERA and .239 opponents average in 16 starts...
