(Bill) Murphy...he made his winter home in Phoenix, working out regularly at Bank One Ballpark...Bill was a 1999 graduate of Arlington High School in Riverside, CA...he attended Cal State-Northridge for 3 years before being selected by the Oakland A's in the third round of the 2002 June free agent draft. 2005 Started the year on the disabled list. ... Activated on May 8. ... Spent the year with Triple-A Tucson. ... Was assigned to the Arizona Fall League. 2004 Over an 8-month stretch, Bill was a member of four different organizations, ultimately ending up with Arizona following a pair of late July deals...he began the year in Florida, following an off-season trade from Oakland...he made 20 starts for Carolina (AA), going 6-4 with a 4.08 ERA, working 103.2 innings allowing only 80 hit while fanning 113...he was 5-0 with a 2.31 ERA over a 7-start stretch from April 21-May 22...he had 6 starts with at least 8 K's, including a season-best 11 at Jacksonville on June 12...he was selected to the U.S. squad for the Futures Game on July 11 at Houston's Minute Maid Park, working a scoreless inning with a walk and 2 K's...Bill was sent from the East Coast to the West Coast on July 30 in a 6-player deal that saw Murphy go to Los Angeles with pitcher Brad Penny and first baseman Hee-Seop Choi in exchange for pitcher Guillermo Mota, catcher Paul LoDuca and outfielder Juan Encarnacion...the next day, Bill was involved in his second deal in as many days when the Dodgers traded him, catcher Koyie Hill and outfielder Reggie Abercrombie to the D'Backs in exchange for outfielder Steve Finley and catcher Brent Mayne...upon completion of the deals, Murphy was assigned to El Paso (AA) where he went 3-3 with a 6.68 ERA in 6 starts.
