Corey Christopher Smith...graduated from Piscataway High School in 2000... Hit .558 (29/52) with 10 HR and 35 RBI during his senior year... entering the draft he was ranked the third "Best Pure Hitter" and second "Best Power Hitter" among high school players in the 2000 draft by Baseball America. 2004 Spent most of the season at Akron and again got off to a slow start, hitting .214 (57-266) with eight doubles, 11 home runs and 35 RBI through his first 75 games... enjoyed a hot April, hitting .307 (23-75) with five homers and 17 RBI in 20 games before hitting .167 and .189, respectively in May and June... hit in nine straight games, April 17-26, with three homers and 13 RBI... went 4-for-4 with April 20 at Harrisburg... through the remainder of the year at Double-A he hit .298 (56-for-188) with eight home runs and 31 RBI in 53 games to raise his average from .214 to .249... hit .314 (27-86) with one home run and 11 RBI in 25 July games... had a 10-game hitting streak from July 29 to August 7, on his way to hitting .314 (23-for-77) with six homers and 17 RBI in 21 games... promoted to Triple-A Buffalo on August 25, hitting safely in two of his five regular season games with the Bisons (2-for-18, 2B, RBI) before finishing out the regular season with the Aeros... went 0-fo-2 in two playoff games for the IL champion Bisons... his 79 runs scored were tied for fourth among Tribe minor leaguers and his 19 home runs were fifth... hit a pair of solo homers on August 9 at New Britain. 2003
