Victor Israel Diaz Bio Info

Victor Israel Diaz III graduated from Roberto Clemente High School in Chicago, where he received All-State honors in baseball all four years...Attended Grayson County College and earned first team All-NJCAA (National Junior College Athletic Association) Division I All-American honors as an infielder. 2005 Riding high in April, sent down in May. The early-season convalescence of Mike Cameron afforded Diaz an opportunity that would have been unavailable otherwise. And he was productive at the early games, batting .360 with three home runs and 10 RBIs in his first 47 at-bats. The rest of his season was uneven, however. Given his age -- he turns 24 in December -- he has a chance to develop into a No. 4 outfielder who deserves 300 at-bats. 2004 Collected a career-high three RBI when he hit a three-run home run (Hawkins) with two outs in the bottom of the ninth vs. Chicago on September 25th to tie the game 3-3...The Mets won the game, 4-3, in 11 innings...Hit safely in nine of his last 11 games (12-41, .293)...Scored six runs with a double, three home runs and six RBI in those contests...Had a career-high, six-game hitting streak, September 22nd-September 28th (Game One)...Was 8-21 (.381) with five runs, two home runs and four RBI in those games...Had a career-high two hits, September 25th vs. Chicago...Also had two hits on September 26th vs. Chicago...Hit his first major league home run, a solo shot in the fourth inning, on September 23rd at Montreal (Ohka)...Made his first major league start on September 11th in rightfield...Collected his first major league hit and RBI with a two-run double (Milton) in the fifth inning...Appeared in 14 games in rightfield (12 starts) for the Mets...Had his contract selected from Norfolk (AAA) on September 11th...Received the Sterling Award at Norfolk...The Award is presented to the team Most Valuable Player...Finished the season third in the International League in RBI, fifth in hits and 10th in extra-base hits with 56...Appeared in 131 games in rightfield, one in center and 10 as the designated hitter...For Norfolk, he hit .306 (34-111) with six home runs and 18 RBI in 28 games in June...Had five RBI vs. Buffalo on May 30th...Hit two home runs vs. Charleston on August 24th...Put together an 11-game hitting streak from April 25th-May 6th (16-48, .333)...Hit .277 (31-112) with 10 runs, five doubles, five home runs and 10 RBI in 34 games for Aguilas in the Dominican Winter League.
