Matthew J. White...pitched three seasons at Clemson from 1996-98...tied for the team lead with 2 complete games in 1997...signed by Indians scout Kasey McKeon, who now works in the Rockies front office. 2003 Pitched for six different teams across three organizations...was selected by Boston from Cleveland in the 2002 Rule 5 draft (Dec. 16, 2002) and began his season on the Red Sox's 15-day disabled list due to a strained right oblique muscle...was placed on the DL March 28 (retro to March 19) and sent on a rehab assignment with Class A Sarasota on May 7...made two starts there before being moved to Double A Portland on May 12...started one game with one relief appearance in the Eastern League and was then bumped up to Pawtucket (AAA) on May 20...completed his rehab assignment with two relief outings at Pawtucket and was activated off the DL on May 26...made his major league debut May 27 at Yankee Stadium and allowed 6 runs (all earned) on 4 hits in just .2 IP of relief...suffered the loss on June 1 at Toronto, yielding 3 runs in .2 IP...made three appearances overall with the BoSox and gave up 11 runs in 3.2 innings (27.00 ERA) with the opposition hitting .526 (10-for-19)...was designated for assignment June 3, cleared waivers and was then traded to Seattle in exchange for OF Sheldon Fulse on June 6...appeared in three games with the Mariners, June 14-25, posting a 13.50 ERA (2.0 ip, 3 er)...on June 30, Matt was returned to the Indians organization as part of the Rule 5 agreement...spent the last two months with Cleveland's Triple A affiliate, Buffalo, where he went 2-3 with a 2.13 ERA in 19 games, one start...all told, he was 2-4 with a 5.16 ERA in 31 combined games with the six clubs.

The left-hander has been selected in each of the past two Rule 5 drafts...begins his seventh pro season and owns an even 37-37 career minor league record in 145 appearances. 2002 Split the season between Akron (AA) and Buffalo (AAA), appearing in 34 games with 12 starts...began the year with Akron and made six starts (0-1, 6.21 ERA) before his first relief appearance on May 18...beginning with a win on June 1, Matt went 6-0 with a 1.74 ERA and 1 save over his final 18 Double A appearances (three starts)...as a reliever, White was 3-0 with a 1.31 ERA and 1 save for the Aeros...promoted to Buffalo and made his Triple A debut on June 15 at Durham in a no decision (5.0 ip, 10 h, 3 er)...was sent to Akron after that start but came back to Buffalo for a relief appearance on Aug. 3...returned to Akron to pitch in four more games, Aug. 6-18, before heading to Buffalo to finish his season. 2001 Completed his first season at the Double A level and was named to the Eastern League Mid-Season All-Star team...his 25 starts led the team and ranked third in the organization...led all Indian farmhands with 60 walks...went 2-2 despite a 2.67 ERA in five May starts. 2000 Recorded a career high 11 wins and 115 strikeouts for Kinston (A)...his 115 K's led the team and trailed only C.C.
