Michael Jerome Stodolka is single...graduated from Centennial High School in Corona, Calif., in 2000. Was 10-0 with a 0.67 ERA in games as a senior at Centennial High...he allowed 24 hits and 27 walks in 52.0 innings while striking out 111 batters. As a left-handed hitter he hit a California Interscholastic Federation record 18 home runs in 2000 to move his 2-year total to 35. 2003

Stodolka spent the 2001 season with Burlington (A) of the Midwest League...made 20 starts for the Bees, going 3-8 with a 4.67 ERA (94.1 IP, 105 H, 49 ER). Began the season at extended spring training camp to get conditioned after having mononucleosis over the winter. Won his season debut vs. Peoria on May 2, allowing 1 run on 5 hits over 5.0 innings. Pitched a season-high 7.2 innings against Wisconsin on June 7...allowed 2 runs (0 earned) on 4 hits. Posted a 2-2 record with a 1.65 ERA in 6 games in June. Dropped his final 6 decisions of the season over a 8-start stretch from July 8-Aug. 31...logged a 7.96 ERA over in those 8 starts (31.2 IP, 28 ER). Registered a 3.43 ERA in 12 games at home and a 6.88 ERA in 8 road games.

Stodolka was the highest draft pick in Royals history when Kansas City selected him 4th in the 2000 June Free Agent Draft...the Royals also took pitcher Jeff Austin with the 4th pick in 1998. Was the first high school pitcher to be taken with the Royals first pick since 1977 when they selected Mike Jones with the 21st pick. Finished his 1st professional season with a combined 0-3 record with a 3.24 ERA in 10 games (7 starts). Was 0-3 in 9 games for the Gulf Coast Royals despite posting a 2.68 ERA (37.0 IP, 11 ER)...made 1 start for Charleston (A), allowing 4 runs on 3 hits in 4.2 innings of work. 2004
