PERSONAL: Single...Attended Escuela Hicayagua de Guaymate...Nickname: Mike...Likes to listen to music in his leisure time. 2003 TRANSACTIONS: Signed as a non-drafted free agent on November 15, 1996 by scouts Arturo DeFreites and Fred Ferreira...Promoted to the major league roster on November 20, 2000. MAJOR LEAGUE SERVICE: Rookie, none. 2000 SEASON: A fast and athletic leadoff hitter and center fielder at A-Cape Fear (A), Ruan finished second in the South Atlantic League in stolen bases (64) and hits (165), fourth in triples (10) and tied for fifth in runs scored (95)...Led the league in official at-bats (574) and was fourth in games played (134)...Led the Crocs with 20 infield hits...An outstanding defensive player with good range and a cannon for an arm, posted 18 assists for the second consecutive season...Was charged with only three errors in 131 games in the outfield...Ranked by Baseball America the 11th-best prospect in the Sally League and the ninth-best in the Expos' organization...Continued his development with Estrellas in the Dominican Republic Winter League.
