Matthew Christopher Whiteside... Is a 1985 graduate of Charleston (MO) High School, where he lettered in baseball, football and basketball... Threw four shutouts his senior year... His basketball team won the state title with a 28-5 mark that same year... Served as celebrity judge for the 1996 Miss USA Pageant... Hobbies include fishing and scuba diving... Signed by Rangers scouts Jim Dreyer and Doug Gassaway... Pitched for Arkansas State University, where he was named the American South Conference Player of the Year in 1990... Graduated in 1991 with a degree in physical education. 2004 Signed with the Atlanta Braves on January 12... Spent the entire season with Richmond (AAA) of the International League... Posted a record of 2-4 with a 3.23 ERA in 57 appearances... Led the Braves' minor league organization in saves (38) and in games (57)...
