In 1992 graduated from Oviedo (FL) High School, where he was a member of the baseball and basketball teams...was drafted out of high school by the Padres in the 37th round of the draft but elected to attend Auburn University...as a freshman tied for the Tigers' team lead in home runs (8)...helped Auburn to the 1994 College World Series by batting .342 with 12hr, 60rbi and 11 steals...in 1993-94 played for Team USA...his brother, Todd, pitched in the New York Mets organization from 1998-2000.
