Coaching Career

Rejoins Angels organization in 2020 as pitching coach after two seasons (2018-19) as Mets manager...Went 163-161 (.503) in two years with New York...In 2019, Club went 86-76 (.531) finishing 11 games behind Braves and just three games behind Brewers for second Wild Card spot...Jacob deGrom won consecutive N.L. Cy Young Awards during his tenure as Mets manager...Prior to stint in New York, was Indians Pitching Coach from 2013-17...From 2014-17, Cleveland hurlers led Majors in strikeouts...In 2017, Indians set a then-MLB record for strikeouts in a single season (1,614)...Tribe pitchers boasted a Major-League-leading 3.30 ERA in 2017 and second-best A.L. ERA in 2015 and 2016...In 2014, Corey Kluber won the organization's fourth Cy Young Award and first since Cliff Lee in 2008...Promoted to Cleveland's Minor League Pitching Coordinator in 2012...In 2011, was Single-A Kinston's (CLE) Pitching Coach...Began professional coaching ranks in 2010 as pitching coach for Single-A Lake County (CLE). 

Playing Career

Played in parts of five big league seasons for Rays (1999 & 2001), Angels (2002-03) and Rangers (200304), posting a career 4-11 record with a 6.27 ERA (130.2 IP - 91 ER)...Made six starts for the Angels during the Club's 2002 World Series championship season...Named 2002 Minor League Pitcher of the Year with Angels and Tampa Bay's Minor League Pitcher of the Year in 2001...Originally drafted by Devil Rays in seventh round of 1996 draft, the inaugural draft for the franchise...Made Major League debut June 12, 1999 with Tampa Bay vs. Montreal...Played three seasons (2005-07) in Korean Baseball Organization and one year (2009) in Taiwan...Was a two-time All-Star in Korea...Served as interim head coach for Texas A&M International University in 2008...Graduated from Germantown High School (TN) in 1993...Tabbed as the Gatorade Tennessee High School Player of the Year in 1992... Played college baseball at the University of Mississippi...Named after Hall of Famer Mickey Mantle.
