Pirates' trio chosen for Fall Stars Game

Pirates' trio chosen for Fall Stars Game

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- A trio of Pirates prospects have been chosen to participate in Saturday's showcase event of the Arizona Fall League, the 2014 Fall Stars Game. The game, which starts at 8 p.m. ET, will be broadcast on MLB Network and streamed live on MLB.com.

Selected to the East Division team were catcher Elias Diaz, first baseman Josh Bell and right-hander Adrian Sampson.

The picks are made in conjunction with players' parent organizations. Clearly, then, the Bucs preferred to rein in Tyler Glasnow -- Pittsburgh's No. 1 prospect who is riding a three-start scoreless streak for the Scottsdale Scorpions in regular-season AFL play.

Bell, the Pirates' No. 3 prospect, and Diaz are both having a challenging time in the highly competitive offseason league, hitting .234 and .222, respectively.

Sampson has picked up a save in six relief appearances as one of a quartet of eye-catching Bucs pitching prospects. Among them, Joely Rodriguez, Angel Sanchez, Glasnow and Sampson have worked a total of 37 innings and allowed six earned runs (1.46 ERA), with 37 strikeouts.
