Astros outright Guzman, Owens

The Houston Astros have outrighted first baseman Jesus Guzman and left-handed pitcher Rudy Owens off the club's 40-man roster, General Manager Jeff Luhnow announced today.

Additionally, the Astros also declined the club option for 2015 for right-handed pitcher Matt Albers.

Guzman, who was acquired by the Astros from SD in exchange for IF Ryan Jackson on Dec. 18, 2013, appeared in 65 games for the Astros in 2014, with 41 starts in his role as a bench player. Owens spent the majority of the 2014 season at Triple A Oklahoma City, but did make one start/appearance for the Astros on May 23 at Seattle in what was his ML debut (lost, 6-1). He made 25 appearances (21 starts) at OKC.

Albers appeared in eight games for the Astros in 2014, all in April, before being lost for the season due to a shoulder injury. His last appearance was April 21 at Seattle.

De Leon Claimed By Oakland.

Right-handed pitcher Jorge De Leon was claimed off waivers by the Oakland A''s today. De Leon made eight relief appearances for the Astros in 2014 as a September call-up. He spent most of the season at Triple A Oklahoma City, making 48 appearances in relief.

With today's moves, the Astros now have 36 players on the 40-man roster with four players on the 60-day Disabled List.
