It began with leadoff hitter Kole Calhoun, who lined his second single up the middle to put a runner on with two outs. Mike Trout, 0-for-6 with a walk to start his much-anticipated postseason debut, fell behind 0-2, then saw four straight balls -- three of them at 100 mph -- to draw a walk. Albert Pujols, 0-for-6 with a walk, followed with a line-drive single to right field, bringing Calhoun around to tie the game at 1.
It was Pujols' 89th career postseason hit, tying him with David Justice for seventh all time. The RBI single was his 16th career postseason game-tying or go-ahead hit, which put him sixth all time.
