KANSAS CITY, MO (October 3, 2014) - The Kansas City Royals announce that right fielder Nori Aoki is the Royals Majestic Player of the Month for September, while right-handed starter Jeremy Guthrie is the club's Pitcher of the Month. The player award is determined by a combined fan and media vote, with the pitcher award voted on by local media.
Aoki finished third among American League batters with a .379 average and fourth in on-base percentage at .432. He set a club record with 11 hits in a three-game series from September 15 to 17 vs. the White Sox. Aoki added two walks against Chicago, becoming the first Major League player since 2009 to reach base 13 times in a series. This is Aoki's first Player of the Month honor since joining the Royals this season.
Guthrie was 3-1 with a 2.40 ERA over five September starts. He completed 7.0 shutout innings on September 26 at Chicago, earning the win as the Royals clinched a playoff spot. He recorded a 0.89 home ERA, fourth-best in the A.L., and finished the season on a three-game winning streak. This is Guthrie's third career Royals Pitcher of the Month award.
