Road weary Royals glad to make trip to ALDS

ANAHEIM -- Playing in a Wild Card Game does not lend itself to easy travel for a team fortunate enough to win and advance to the next round.

The Royals found themselves in that position with extra factors involved that resulted in arriving at their Southern California hotel at 6:30 a.m. PT on Wednesday. But the club was still able to be at Angel Stadium for a 1 p.m. workout.

"Not a lot of sleep, but that's OK," outfielder Alex Gordon said. "We'll take it."

The Royals' 9-8 win over the Athletics on Tuesday night went 12 innings and lasted four hours, 45 minutes, ending just before midnight CT in Kansas City. The Royals, because of local noise restrictions, then had to fly to Los Angeles International rather than John Wayne Airport in Orange County, which tacked on an extra hour of bus time to get down to Anaheim.

"I think we're a lot happier to be here than Kansas City, that's for sure," pitcher Jason Vargas said. "Morale is great. Guys had energy out at [batting practice] today, so we're just ready for tomorrow."
