The Seattle Mariners tonight marked an attendance milestone when the two millionth fan of the year passed through the gates of Safeco Field at approximately 5:10pm PDT.
Brian Grimm, 22, of Asotin, Washington, was showered with confetti and greeting inside the Home Plate Gate by the Mariner Moose and a Dixieland band playing When the Saints Go Marching in. Grimm and his family (girlfriend, younger brother, mom and her boyfriend) were upgraded from their seats in left field to a few rows above the visitors dugout. Grimm also received a baseball autographed by Mariners manager Lloyd McClendon and a Mariners prize pack.
Grimm says he is a lifelong Mariners fan, but has only been to Safeco Field once before - on the weekend the ballpark opened in 1999.
The Mariners will end the 2014 regular season tomorrow against the Los Angeles Angels with the highest season attendance at Safeco Field since 2010 (2,085,630). The Mariners 2014 attendance was up more 15% over 2013, the biggest percentage increase of any team in Major League Baseball this year.
