Red Sox skipper excited to manage American club in All-Star Series

Farrell will be joined by Francona, Butterfield in Japan

BOSTON -- Red Sox manager John Farrell will bring third-base coach Brian Butterfield with him on the November trip to Japan for the All-Star Series. Another familiar face will be with Farrell in the dugout as well -- Indians manager Terry Francona.

Mike Maddux of the Rangers will be the pitching coach.

At this point, Farrell doesn't think any Red Sox players will be on the roster.

Farrell was asked why he chose to give up a couple of weeks in his offseason to go to Japan.

"I was asked after a change was made with Ron Washington. It was an honor to be considered," said Farrell. "Any time that you can represent Major League Baseball, particularly in a situation like this, is a great opportunity to be involved with what should be a series that is focused on and has some significance."
