Dunn a true Texan with full heart for football

A's DH was quarterback in his youth before finding success in Majors

At New Caney High School in Texas, Adam Dunn was a stud quarterback, racking up 4,792 yards and 44 touchdowns before graduating and committing to play football for the University of Texas.

The Reds took Dunn in the second round of the 1998 First-Year Player Draft, but after playing Minor League ball in the summer, he returned to Austin for football. When Richard Walton got injured, Dunn was the Longhorns' No. 2 QB behind Major Applewhite.

One year later, though, the Longhorns wanted Dunn to move to tight end. Soon after, in the spring of 1999, he decided to drop football and pursue a career in baseball full time.
