Fuld's baseball talents extend beyond field

Statistics captured A's outfielder's interest after skill in sport developed

Sam Fuld, OF, Athletics
Hometown: Durham, N.H.

Sam Fuld was a stud on the New Hampshire amateur baseball scene. He went to high school at Exeter Academy, where he turned heads. In 2000, Fuld was ranked 19th among the 100 Top High School Prospects by Baseball America, and he was selected as New Hampshire's Gatorade High School Player of the Year.

New Hampshire was where Fuld first took an interest in baseball -- and, from a very young age, in baseball statistics. After graduating with a degree in economics from Stanford and playing in the Midwest League, he did an internship with STATS, Inc. in 2005.

Fuld's parents are New Hampshire mainstays: Kenneth Fuld, dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Professor of Psychology at the University of New Hampshire, and Amanda Merrill, a former New Hampshire state senator.
