Napoli remains out, aims to play this week

BOSTON --- Red Sox first baseman Mike Napoli is dealing with a variety of injuries as the season winds down, but he's hopeful finger, back and toe issues won't keep him out of the lineup all of this week.

Napoli hasn't played since Sept. 17 and wasn't in the lineup again Tuesday.

"We're just trying to get him through the remainder of the season," manager John Farrell said, "hopeful that he will get back on the field."

The absence of Napoli has given more at-bats to Allen Craig, who started in four of the last five games. He sat Tuesday when Daniel Nava played first base with Rays righty Alex Cobb on the mound. Craig went 1-for-14 over those four games.
