Willingham hasn't strayed far from Alabama roots

Josh Willingham, DH, Royals
Hometown: Florence, Ala.

Willingham knows nothing but Florence. One of the Royals' most potent bats off the bench grew up in the city, went to high school and college in Florence, and he currently resides there.

"It was good. I lived at home for the first couple of years, and then I moved out," Willingham said. "Parents, family, friends got to see me play, so it was all cool."

Willingham graduated from Mars Hill Bible School -- the only alumnus to reach the Majors -- then attended the University of Northern Alabama, the same school as Giants reliever Sergio Romo. After three years at UNA, Willingham was selected by the Marlins in the 17th round of the 2000 First-Year Player Draft.

Kansas City acquired Willingham from Minnesota in August.
