TORONTO - Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Jack Zduriencik announced prior to tonight's game the following medical update on Mariners starting pitcher Roenis Elias:
Elias returned to Seattle from Los Angeles on Thursday, September 18, and was examined by Mariners Medical Director Dr. E. Edward Khalfayan on Friday, September 19. He underwent a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) exam today.
According to Dr. Khalfayan, the exam and MRI confirmed the initial diagnosis of a strained flexor bundle in Elias' left elbow. Elias will refrain from throwing for 4 to 6 weeks.
In 29 starts this season, Elias was 10-12 with a 3.85 earned run average (70 ER, 163.2 IP).
