Nieuwenhuis rests after passing kidney stone

ATLANTA -- Mets outfielder Kirk Nieuwenhuis sat out of Friday's lineup against the Braves at Turner Field after passing a kidney stone on Thursday.

Nieuwenhuis told manager Terry Collins he could play on Friday if needed, but Collins elected to rest him and start Matt den Dekker in center field instead.

Eric Young Jr. was in left field, with Curtis Granderson manning right.
