Morse not yet ready to return from oblique strain

SAN FRANCISCO -- Contrary to earlier estimates, Giants left fielder/first baseman Michael Morse might not be fit to resume playing until this weekend's showdown against the Los Angeles Dodgers, manager Bruce Bochy said Tuesday.

The Giants had hoped that Morse would return during their current series against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Instead, his strained left oblique rendered him unable to swing a bat.

"He's still a little sore," Bochy said. "We're hoping [in] three to five days, in that area, we can ramp it up with him."

With Morse shelved, Gregor Blanco started his 13th consecutive game in left field and Buster Posey started at first base for the third time in six games.

Morse is batting .280 with 16 homers and 61 RBIs in 130 games.
