Reno's title run has D-backs short

LOS ANGELES -- With Triple-A Reno advancing to the Pacific Coast League Championship Series against Omaha, the D-backs will continue to wait for their September reinforcements from the Aces.

"It's good for them to play in a championship environment," D-backs manager Kirk Gibson said before Sunday's game at Dodger Stadium. "The ones that are coming up are going to play more on a regular basis than they will here."

The D-backs have 29 active (15 position players, 14 pitchers), but several of the former are banged up, and reliever Brad Ziegler is headed for knee surgery Tuesday.

"We're a little short for our September standards," Gibson said, "but fine, by regular-season standards.
