Jaso to return from concussion this week

OAKLAND -- John Jaso is expected to be activated from the disabled list at some point during the A's seven-game road trip this week, manager Bob Melvin said Sunday morning.

"Could be as early as tomorrow, could be a couple days into it," said Melvin. "Not sure."

When that time comes, Jaso will serve in a limited role, at least to start. Until he gets clearance from concussion specialist Dr. Micky Collins to begin catching again, Jaso will likely spend most of his playing time pinch-hitting, while Adam Dunn continues to get the majority of DH at-bats against right-handers.

Jaso took batting practice and did running drills on Sunday and was expected to speak with Collins later in the day to determine the next step.

Jaso, who missed the entirety of the second half of the 2013 season because of concussion symptoms, began experiencing them again -- including fuzziness, headaches and nausea -- last month after taking a hard foul ball to his face mask.
