LOS ANGELES -- The Dodgers, who nearly ran out of position players in Wednesday's loss to Washington, purchased the contract of outfielder Roger Bernadina from Triple-A Albuquerque on Saturday for pinch-running purposes.
To make room for Bernadina on the 40-man roster, pitcher Josh Beckett was moved from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day DL. In a separate move, the club confirmed that infielder Carlos Triunfel had cleared waivers and been outrighted to Triple-A.
Bernadina, 30, has played parts of seven seasons in the Major Leagues, including 15 games with Cincinnati this year. He is 59-12 in stolen-base attempts in the Majors. At Albuquerque, he was 2-for-2 in stolen-base attempts.
Beckett has been on the DL since Aug. 4 with torn left hip labrum that need surgery, and he is considering retirement.
