"They're going to re-evaluate in a week. Something like this normally is two to three or four weeks. I don't know," manager Ned Yost said.
Colon, starting at third base in place of Mike Moustakas, was injured as he fielded a ball hit by Tomas Telis in the second inning. Colon threw the ball high to second baseman Omar Infante and was charged with an error.
Colon stayed in the game and put down a sacrifice bunt in the bottom of the third inning but then left the game and was replaced by Moustakas. Later, after Moustakas left for a pinch-runner, Jayson Nix took over at third.
Sent down to Double-A Northwest Arkansas for three days, Colon had just returned to Kansas City and was counted on as a backup infielder down the stretch. But the Royals also have Nix and Johnny Giavotella for that role.
"That's why we talked about that depth," Yost said. "Depth is important ... so we're in good shape."
