• Mattingly said third baseman Juan Uribe is progressing nicely from his strained right hamstring, which he had injured earlier in the season. "Uribe is feeling better," Mattingly said. "Mostly inside work, doing a little bit of baseball stuff. He'll be progressing toward the field, a lot like the first time he hurt it."
• Right-hander Josh Beckett hasn't yet begun throwing after going on the disabled list Aug. 4 with a left hip impingement, casting doubt on his chances of returning this season. "At this point, he's been out a little bit," Mattingly said. "It's going to take him awhile before he can start throwing. Once that happens, it's going to take him a little while to get built up. Is there going to be enough time? I'm not sure."
• Right-hander Zack Greinke is still listed to start Thursday against the Padres. Greinke has been dealing with soreness in his elbow, but Mattingly said Greinke's not on his "daily emails" when it comes to injuries. The manager did say that right-hander Carlos Frias would be the next in line to start should one of the starters not be able to go.
