Mariners Recall LHP Roenis Elias; OF James Jones Optioned

PHILADELPHIA, Penn. - Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Jack Zduriencik announced the following roster moves:

  •          Roenis Elias, LHP, recalled from AAA Tacoma
  •          James Jones, OF, optioned to AAA Tacoma (post-game 8/17)

Elias (#29) will be the starter for tonight's 4:10 pm PST in Philadelphia against the Phillies.

Elias, 26, made one start for AAA Tacoma on Aug. 13 in New Orleans, tossing 5.0 no-hit innings while striking out 6 after being optioned to the minors after earning the win on Aug. 7 vs. the White Sox. The left-hander is 9-9 with a 4.14 ERA (62 ER, 134.2 IP) in 23 starts during his rookie season. Amongst Major League rookie pitchers, ranks T2nd in games started (23), 2nd in innings (134.2) and 4th in strikeouts.

Jones, 25, has hit .256 (75x293) with 39 runs, 8 doubles, 4 triples, 9 RBI with 20 stolen bases in 21 attempts in 83 games over three stints with the Mariners this season. In his most recent 8-game stint with AAA Tacoma is hitting .257 (9x35) with 5 runs, 2 doubles, 2 triples and 4 RBI. In 28 games with the Rainiers this season, he has hit .296 (34x115) with 5 doubles, 3 triples, 2 home runs, 12 RBI and 5 stolen bases.
