• D-backs shortstop Chris Owings, who is recovering from a left shoulder strain, is progressing well on his rehab stint in the rookie Arizona League and is scheduled to move to Triple-A Reno on Friday. Owings is unlikely to return before September.
"I mean, he's been out a long time," Gibson said. "We're going to have him play quite a bit."
• Injured outfielder A.J. Pollock, who had his rehab from a fractured right hand set back when he was hit on the hand once again, is due to start hitting again Monday.
• Gibson said that catcher Miguel Montero will play five consecutive games from Saturday through Wednesday, which will give him the opportunity to go one time through the rotation. Gibson had said recently that he wanted to play backup catcher Tuffy Gosewisch more often.
"He wants to play," Gibson said of Montero. "You guys know that, it's no secret. It's hard for him to not play. I've given him more time off recently than he's used to. He wants to play."
