Toronto has yet to make an official roster move but Encarnacion is expected to join the Blue Jays on Friday night in Chicago. That has been the stated plan since the beginning of the week and the final hurdle was cleared with his appearance at first base.
Encarnacion has been out since July 5 because of a strained right quadriceps muscle. He appeared in a total of four rehab games in the Minor Leagues and had three hits in 12 at-bats. The highlight came on Tuesday night when he hit a first-pitch grand slam for the Bisons.
"I want to try to get ready and serve my team so we can get to where we want to be, the playoffs," Encarnacion said after that game. "I feel great, I'm just trying to get my timing back. I just want to get ready here to get back to the big leagues with my team."
