Smoke signals

• Infielders Mike Aviles, Lonnie Chisenhall and Jason Kipnis each did a series of tarp slides on the field shortly before Tuesday's game against the D-backs was postponed due to rain. Indians manager Terry Francona was alerted of the high jinks ahead of time and had no issue with his players having a little fun.

"They were just messing around," Francona said.

• Left-hander T.J. House logged only 46 pitches in 3 1/3 innings prior to Tuesday's postponement, but his outing (along with the rest of the game's stats) was wiped away. Even with the light workload for House, Francona said Cleveland's rotation plans are unchanged for the upcoming weekend series with the Orioles.

• Double-A Akron outfielder Anthony Gallas went 4-for-5 with a home run in the RubberDucks' 5-4 win over Portland on Tuesday. The 26-year-old Gallas -- a product of Strongsville, Ohio, and Kent State University -- has hit .302 with 20 homers (the most in the farm system) and 69 RBIs through 113 games this season.
