Worth noting

Josh Hamilton was out of Sunday's lineup after playing 19 innings in center field Saturday and going 1-for-8. Hamilton did pinch-hit in the bottom of the ninth, though, striking out to end the game. He has one hit in his last 25 at-bats.

Scioscia said Hamilton, who had homered three times in a seven-game stretch recently, simply needed a "refresh day."

"Even his batting practices were different than he had taken just three or four weeks ago," Scioscia said. "He just feels in sync more, it just hasn't translated into production."

Mike Trout's eighth-inning homer on Sunday was his 27th of the season, which matched his 2013 total and set a new Angels record for home runs from the lineup's No. 2 spot.

• When he entered in the ninth inning Sunday, Pestano became the Angels' 30th different pitcher used this season, breaking the franchise record of 29 in 1996.

Mike Morin threw off a mound on Sunday for the first time since suffering a left foot laceration last weekend in Tampa Bay. Morin said he felt good after about 15 pitches and expects to be activated Saturday in Texas.

• The Pirates claimed former Angels infielder Tommy Field, who played in 15 games, on Sunday, three days after the Halos designated him for assignment.
